Wednesday 7th September 2016 was a perfect Spring day, and 48 very excited residents from Bayway Village made the most of it. We boarded our coach at the front of the village at 8:30am and soon on our way to Gloucester. We had a leisurely morning tea stop at Silo Hill near Stroud. The scenery was pretty spectacular, as was our morning tea, a choice of banana, chocolate or lemon cake.
We were greeted at Hillview Herb Farm by our wonderful host, Karen. We enjoyed a tour of the gardens, tasted a few herbs fresh from the plants, and Karen happily shared her great knowledge of herbs and their many uses. Most decided it would be fun to return and make pizza, using fresh herbs, in the enormous outdoor pizza oven.
Lunch was really delicious, chicken, sausages, salads, potatoes and the best garlic/herb bread in the world. Naturally, all the marinades, sauces etc were homemade using fresh herbs from the garden. That was followed with scrumptious dessert and tea-tasting. After spending all our money in the shop we set out for home with bags full of sauces, marinades, and other herby things. Dorothy and Cheryl won the prizes for best “Spring hat” and Ken was happy to win our raffle prize. A great day was had by all and we are excitedly planning our next trip.
